SUSSEX COUNTY – The Sussex County Safe Kids Council is seeking involvement of interested community members for its child abuse prevention initiative. The program currently has three subcommittees to develop prevention strategies for Sussex County’s children. The committees are Keep Kids Safe, Community Resource Networking, and Developing a Prevention Message.
The Keep Kids Safe Committee is designing a public awareness campaign which will encourage businesses, corporations, and individuals to take the pledge to Stop Child Abuse and Neglect, as well as intervene or take appropriate action when they observe situations that may be putting a child at risk for abuse or neglect.
The Community Resource Networking Committee is compiling a complete list of community resources available to assist and strengthen families and enhance their support systems. This committee will also develop a community outreach program to publicize these resources.
The Developing a Prevention Message committee is developing an information campaign for the public. The committee will design prevention messages for a variety of community members, prepare training agendas, train community members to give presentations, and develop media messages related to child abuse prevention strategies.
